It is remarkable how quickly students establish connections with their schoolmates, with nature, and to their required school work by participating in planting seeds, turning compost, or examining butterflies. Both anecdotal and research-based evidence show that the use of an outdoor or indoor garden can improve science test scores, build positive character traits, motivate children to eat healthier foods, and develop an appreciation for the environment.
